HOSTED TRIP WITH JASC-ENDORSED GUIDE, DAVID BLINKEN
CAMPECHE, MEXICO (AKA TARPON TOWN)
Join the Juliana’s on a hosted trip to Campeche, Mexico for five full days of tarpon fishing and six nights in one of the Yucatán’s most charming cities. San Francisco de Campeche is a historic walled colonial city and UNESCO World Heritage Site situated on the western coast of the Yucatán Peninsula along the Gulf of Mexico.
Late July puts us right in the heart of tarpon season, when the “silver king” is on the move. Tarpon are famous for their explosive, acrobatic jumps (don’t forget to bow to the fish), and the waters around Campeche are known for strong fish and the kind of sight-casting and battles that make for unforgettable stories. The shallow waters, mangrove forests, and tidal creeks of the Bay of Campeche and the Los Petenes Biosphere Reserve form one of the world's most prolific nurseries for baby tarpon (typically weighing 5 to 30 pounds).
After a full day on the water, we will head back to our house for a dip in the pool and a siesta before we head into the heart of town, with its walled streets, colorful plazas, and fantastic local seafood. We will gather for dinner every night to swap stories and relive the day’s events. David has hosted many trips here and knows both the water and the best tables in town, so all you need to bring is your gear and your sense of adventure. We can’t wait to fish with you!
